Take me home, Daddy!Sample ChaptersAbout Marine Media

The following is a small photo album that illustrates some of the stages of restoration on my boat. Comments are included, where necessary, with the larger images. These aren't all the images that I took, I've pared it down a bit to keep the web space affordable.

If you're thinking of restoring your own MacGregor and have a question, feel free to email me. I don't consider myself an "expert," just "experienced." I'll help whenever I can. Another site that I suggest any potential restorer look at is www.bucnet.com, where you can check the potential "book value" of nearly any sailboat. It's a password protected site, but it's free and the information is important. And if you're looking for a boat to restore, you can try my favorite, YachtWorld.com. This is a photo-driven boat sales site, and many of the ads include photos. (An unsolicited opinion here... it's almost a waste of time to try and sell a boat over the internet without photos. Condition is everything, and most buyers won't travel long distances to see a trashed-out boat. I really wish sellers would clean their boat, and post AT LEAST one interior and one exterior shot before listing a boat for sale.) The classic BoatTraderOnline tends to have a few more boats, but not as many ads with photos.

If you'd like to see more photos, there are two ways to do it. You can go to Bob White's website at www.macgregor-boats.com, where more images and comments about my boat are posted, plus there are dozens of other restoration projects there. Or you can buy the book when it comes out this Christmas. It's called, Fix It And Sail! published by International Marine.

So what's the latest in the project department? I've sold Fluke and purchased a new boat that fits our family a little better. It's a bit smaller at 17 feet, and a little easier to tow... my pickup can just pull it, where the MacGregor was just too heavy for it. Scroll down to the very bottom of this page for a few photos of my new (to me) Montgomery 17.

More photos ot the Montgomery will be on the way. Check back soon, and thanks for dropping by!
