The new traveler and support, varnished and mounted on the boat. I've probably got about $75-85 in the whole thing, vs $300 for all off-the-shelf stuff from Harken. It works as well as the expensive off-the-shelf version, but of course, there's more maintenance as it will need to be varnished annually.

I did make one mistake here that I didn't realize until I went sailing. I should have located the traveller either further forward or further back. As it is, there's a great temptation to put your legs behind the traveller. I've singlehanded the boat a bit, and I naturally find myself sitting in the back corner of the cockpit. When I stand up, my legs are pinned by the traveller, which isn't the best situation. I may move this later, since it's secured to the boat by four large bolts.
